Body Image

Discover the real reasons behind your overeating, weight, and body image issues

‘BODY IMAGE IS A BATTLE FOR YOUR MIND’ – Marc David

Winning the battle means gaining control over your own imagination despite what the cultural norms are throwing at you. The healing happens when we embrace the present. Love your body first, not when it loses four sizes.

At The Runaway Fork, we teach tools to help you resist the cultural messages that your body is not good enough. We help you accept and rejoice in your body as it is and as it looks to help you feel confident and secure about going out there in the world.

Let’s be honest, our self-esteem and moods take a big hit

We often go through life feeling insecure and stressed, constantly deciding which events to avoid, and how to even get dressed in the morning. We starve ourselves, over-exercise, think terrible thoughts about our bodies and character while we compare ourselves to others, all with the expectation of ending up in a place of self-love.

You look as good as you feel!

Let’s explore ways to make you feel happy now regardless of your size and shape. Learn what real beauty is, conquer self-doubt, your inner-critic, and make improvements to your life.

How can we come to a place of love for our body in a culture that idealizes thin?

Only 5% of American females naturally possess the body type portrayed as the ideal in advertising. So where does that leave the other 95% of us?  It’s like we are trying to squeeze our size 8 foot into a size 5 shoe and it’s just not going to happen!

“If only I were thin, I’d be happy!”

Many people have been believing this for decades, postponing happiness for some unknown future date. Create a life you love now in the present with support and guidance. Set healthy boundaries, identify emotional triggers, find your voice, connect with others, and create a plan for self-care.

Can you love what you can’t change?

There are things you can’t change about your family and friends, but you love them anyway. Move from conditional to unconditional love. Develop body appreciation, respect, and gratitude for the vehicle that you are in for your stay here on planet earth.

Work from the inside out

Have you ever met anyone with the ideal looks, weight, and body, yet was still miserable, unhappy, and insecure?  What does that tell you? Losing weight alone won’t get you there, you need to do the inner work too. Discover what’s holding you back from enjoying the life of your dreams.

End the trash talk

You’d never talk to your best friend the way you talk to your own body. Learn to examine the power of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how to move from this place of un-love.

You are more than a number

Learn that your worth does not equal your waist size. You are so much more than a body. Learn to embrace your entire fabulous self and all the roles your fulfill as you move through this world. Break up with your scale and the power it holds over your moods, thoughts, and behaviors.

Most women are NOT HAPPY with their bodies:

  • 9 out of 10 women in the US are unhappy with their appearance
  • 2 out of 5 women would give up 3 to 5 years of their life in exchange for weight loss
  • More than half of the females between 18 and 25 would prefer to be run over by a truck than be fat
  • Two-thirds of females between 18 and 25 would rather be mean or stupid than fat

Body hate is adversely affecting our youth:

10 year old girls who fear being fat
0%
Girls on a diet by the time they reach the 4th grade
0%
Girls Ages 13-19 Dissatisfied with their Bodies
0%
Boys Ages 13-19 Dissatisfied with their Bodies
0%
Girls ages 3-6 concerned about their weight

Men and boys are not immune from this body hate phenomenon either:

  • Males face tremendous pressure to morph into our culture’s idealized body type of muscular and lean
  • Disordered eating patterns are as common in males as they are in females
  • 1 in 3 people struggling with an eating disorder is actually male
  • 1 out of 5 men would give up 3 to 5 years of their life in exchange for weight loss
